Ernest Arthur Rowe is one of our favourite watercolour artists of garden scenes. His career really took off when he painted many country house gardens in the South of England, exhibiting at the Royal Academy between 1888 and 1917. This is a lovely example of his work and is of the botanical gardens and azaleas of Villa Carlotta Tremezzo, Lake Como. Post tuberculosis Rowe spent winters in Europe and visited the Villa several times in the early 1900s. Signed lower right and with its original Dowdeswell and Dowdeswell label.
