First of a pair of woodland scenes by Ed Thompson annotated on the rear as the same copse, this one from 1917 prior to clearance for the war effort. Wythop Woods is a woodland nestled alongside Bassenthwaite Lake in Cockermouth. Very fine quality, Thompson at his best, and they are fresh to the market originally being part of a set of four, which hung in Wordsworth house, the then home of a GP who took them in lieu of payment from Thompson. Cleaned, conserved, beautifully framed and inscribed verso by Thompson, "Sundown in Wythop woods (1917) Original, previous to being cut down for war purposes."
