Rising above England's deepest lake, the dramatic Wast Water Screes, painted by Thompson partially lit by sunlight, are not looking as forbidding as they can do. Long held in a family collection, one of several accepted in payment from Thompson by a local doctor, is fresh to the market. Cleaned, conserved, glazed with AR70 glass; signed lower left.
