Large Edward Thompson watercolour with far reaching views across four of the lakes in the English lake District. We think painted from Haystacks with as written in the artist's hand on the label: "Buttermere, Crummock water, Loweswater, Ennerdale lake, with the Solway firth, and Scottish coast in extreme distance Ed H. Thompson , Bassenthwaite Lake, Cumbria" Fresh to the market having been long held in a family collection - one of several taken in payment from Thompson by a local doctor who at the time resided at Wordsworth house. In excellent condition, cleaned, conserved, glazed with Artglass (AR70) and signed lower right (and on the label verso).
