One of three paintings fresh to the market. Held by family members since their purchase which was believed to be directly from the artist or one of his Lake District vendors in the 1930's. Artist's label with Thompson's post-1928 home studio address (the Ruddings, Bassenthwaite Lake, Cockermouth, Cumberland) and with hand-written narrative: "The summit of Sty Head Pass on Great Gable, with Great End behind." (also verso). Very good on its own but pairs well with "Passing Gleams." Signed, lower left.
