Edward Horace Thompson (1879-1949)
The sweetest hour at eve, Bassenthwaite Lake

Medium: Watercolour
Size without frame: 14.0" x 20.0"
Size including frame: 24.0" x 30.0"
SOLD

A lovely Thompson watercolour looking across Bassenthwaite Lake from Church Bay towards Keswick and Borrowdale in early evening light - to Thompson's eye, 'the sweetest hour'. Fresh to the market having been long held in a private family collection bought directly from the artist. Titled verso by Thompson and with his own label upon which he has sketched and named the peaks/fells. In excellent condition now with a new frame and mount. Signed, lower left.

(Bassenthwaite is the only lake in the Lake District - all the others are meres or waters)
