Edmund Blair Leighton (1852-1922)
Edmund Blair Leighton was an English painter of historical and genre scenes. While working in the City he attended evening classes at Heatherleys before aged 21 entering the Royal Academy schools where he trained for five years. Edmund Blair Leighton was well known in his day exhibiting for forty-two consecutive years (1878-1920) and a total of sixty-six pictures at the Royal Academy. Many of his paintings were popular with the public and so were widely reproduced. The Laing, Manchester, Leeds and Russell-Cotes art galleries all feature artworks of Blair Leighton.
