David Thomas Robertson (1879-1952)
David Thomas Robertson was born to Scottish parents in Darlington, County Durham, but from early childhood lived and remained in Sunderland. A self-taught artist Robertson painted some marines and portraits but concentrated on landscapes - local rural scenes with animals, a passion for which he shared with his friend and mentor John Atkinson. The Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens and the National Galleries of Scotland are among the public collections holding his works.
