A powerful and imposing picture of the Langdale Pikes. Monogrammed and dated on the right hand rock and further inscribed verso - 'Sunset The Langdale Pikes from Blea Tarn Westmorland - Charles Pettit 1879'
Christopher Wood, sadly now deceased, has him in The Dictionary of Victorian Painters as flourishing some 20 years short of this date!
