Bernard Benedict Hemy (1855-1913)
Tacking past the Tyne
Medium: Oil on canvas
Size without frame: 19.5" x 29.5"
SOLD
An exemplary example, the bold composition of which shows elements of his brother Charles Napier Hemy's work who was always considered the superior artist. This painting depicts a fishing boat,(again very like C.N.H's floating studio that B.B. Hemy borrowed on occasion), passing a Naval brig being towed over the bar at the mouth of The Tyne, and very much painted in his brother's style with the very top of the mast out of the picture. In good relined condition and, as ever, well framed with a quality hand made swept. Outside dimension of frame is 25" x 35".
