Designed by Edwin Lutyens The Pleasaunce was built for Lord and Lady Battersea in 1888 with gardens designed by the famous garden designer Gertrude Jeckyll. The house name derives from a medieval word meaning a pleasure garden with open walkways, blooming flowers "where ladies and gentlemen may take the airs". And what a delightful garden Jeckyll had created, here recorded in full summer glory by Beatrice Parsons in this absolutely superb watercolour. In outstanding condition, colours seemingly as fresh as the day it was painted. Signed lower right and with a Fine Art Society label.
