The full title is "Roses (Fortune's Yellow and Duchesse Daverstadt), Algiers." This watercolour is signed and inscribed "Telemly-Algiers" lower right. An unusual example! Apparently there was quite a large community of artists in Algiers, enjoying the clear light - learn something new every day in this business. Provenance: From an American Collection. Originally acquired from Hirschl and Adler Galleries, New York in 1983. Exhibition: "Birds, Bees and Gardens: Romantic Visions of Victorian England," no. 54, p. 16.
