Alexander Hohenlohe Burr (1836-1899)
Scottish genre and historical painter fond of painting children, often with a great sense of humour. He studied under John Ballantyne in Edinburgh before moving to London in 1861 with his older brother, artist John Burr (1831-1893). Exhibited 16 paintings at Royal Academy between 1860 and 1888. Artworks are held in collections of the National Galleries of Scotland, Museums Sheffield, and the museums and art galleries of Dundee, Paisley and Campbeltown.
