While holidaying in the Alps in 1894 this flowering plant caught Archibald Thorburn's eye. The Wengernalp is an Alpine meadow in the Bernese Oberland and then, as now, a popular holiday destination having great views of the Jungfrau and Eiger. On buff-coloured paper initialled A.T. and annotated 'Wengern Alp June 11. 94'. Acquired some years ago with another unusual subject of two mice - see our archive. Both were from a much larger and mixed collection of Thorburn's work
