A very good William Thornley, presented in the original frame and in very good condition. The painting is titled on the lower right in the artist's very distinct handwriting, but not actually signed as far as we can see. Interestingly the slip repeats the title and the name 'J. Hirst'. The artist did use a number of different names and we wonder if this is one we haven't seen before or, more likely, a previous owner has misread a faint signature 'Thornley' which we haven't seen, or has now been lost.
