Walter J. Watson (1879-1937)

Walter J. Watson was a landscape painter, born in Somerville, Cheshire (1879). He studied at the Wallasey School of Art and in London. Walter Watson loved Britain and travelled extensively in search of his subjects. He was particularly drawn to the dramatic highlands of Scotland. He lived in various places including Bettws-y-Coed in North Wales (1923), Maesbury in Shropshire, Leonards-on-Sea (1910) and Hastings (1912). During his career, Watson exhibited widely between 1910 and 1937 at the major London Galleries as well as in the provinces and abroad. He was elected an Associate of the Royal Cambrian Academy in 1922 where he showed no fewer than 32 paintings Watson's soft palette, careful execution and restful compositions are representative of his much sought after landscapes. His work is sought after worldwide especially as he produced comparatively few pictures.
