Sydney Robert Watson (1892-1976)

Sydney Robert Watson was a painter, watercolourist and etcher. He was born in Enfield, Middlesex in 1892 and is also known to have lived in Leicester.

Watson studied at the Royal College of Art 1911-1915 and exhibited 1921–39.

Frequently portraying Highland Cattle (cows, sheep or goats) in his paintings, Watson is renowned for his use of intricate detail and broad use of varying light.

Works by Sydney Watson are held by the Royal Society of Artists in Birmingham, Manchester City Art Gallery, Nottingham Museum and Art Gallery, the New English Art Club and the Royal Academy in London.
