John Falconer Slater (1857 - 1937)
Hunting Scene

Medium: Monoprint
SOLD

At first glance this little oil appears slight and 'wispy' and further inspection reveals that it is done on paper! It is one of Slaters scarce monoprints that he experimented with - painted in oils on a plate then impressed onto paper and hand finished. Signed with the point of, probably, a pencil. Monoprints are known as the most painterly method among the printmaking techniques; it is essentially a printed painting.[3] The characteristic of this method is that no two prints are alike. The beauty of this medium is also in its spontaneity and its combination of printmaking, painting and drawing media. (Definition from Wikipedia).

NOTE:The image is a little too 'sparkly' due to light on the fine varnish. A different shot in subdued light can be supplied if wished!
